Braun Silk-épil 3 Epilator - Model 3170 Review

Hey ya beauties! Firstly, I apologise for the delay in reviewing the Braun Silk-épil 3 Epilator, that many of you requested. But I wanted to make sure that I use it properly before giving my view. So after using it to my satisfaction, here is my review on it.

PRICE:  Rs 2795

QUANTITY: 1 Epilator ( with Epilator head, Skin stimulation attachment, Adapter, Small cleaning brush)

WHAT IT CLAIMS:

20 Tweezer System- The epilation head comes with the 20 Tweezer System for easy results. It gently removes hair at the root - for smooth skin for weeks.

SoftLift Tips- Silk-épil 3 SoftPerfection includes unique SoftLift Tips® which effectively lift even flat-lying hair and help guiding them to the tweezers.

Dermatologically recommended- Braun Silk-épil promise for gentle hair removal: with tailored features to make standard epilation even more comfortable.

Massaging Rollers- Two massaging rollers smoothly glide on the skin and stimulate it not only before, but also after the hair is removed to ease the epilation sensation.

Speed Personalization- With all Silk-épil epilators you can choose the right speed for your individual needs: Speed 1 for extra gentle and speed 2 for extra efficient epilation.

MY EXPERIENCE: I have tried both shaving and waxing. Waxing gives me rashes/bumps that takes a week to disappear, whereas shaving leads to dark spots and roughness. This is my first experience of using an epilator. First time I switched it on, I was so scared with the hissing sound it makes (almost like a drilling machine but a little less in intensity :P ) that I could not brave it to put it on my skin. After few minutes when I got adjusted to the sound, I ran it over my hand. I have moderate pain threshold, so I felt a pinching sensation only. Though holding it in the right angle needs some practice. Else the hair doesn't get pulled out completely, only gets cut off from the middle. There are two speed levels (1 & 2). I always use it on level 1, as on level 2 the sound gets more scary and the speed with which the head rotates makes me dizzy. On epilating my arms, I didn't feel much pain/discomfort. However, when I dared to try it on underarms, O-M-G $%$#@$&^#%$#%^&. Actually there is another model 3270 which comes with an additional shaver head with trimmer cap meant for sensitive areas. But I had to experiment for the review's sake :P. So you are forewarned, don't try it on sensitive areas! Shaving is the best option in such cases.

Coming to the process of epilating, it should be used on dry skin and held perpendicular to the area that you want to epilate. The epilator head rotates as you glide it on, and the tweezers pulls out the hair. The green massage roller head helps to prep the area for the pain ahead and also alleviate the pain afterward. I require to repeat the process 3-4 times on the same area to remove all the hair. However, some of the small stubborn hair still remains. I also clean the epilator head in between repeating the process. Also because the epilator head gets hot due to all the friction, hence this intervals also helps in cooling it down a little. If I compare it to waxing, it is definitely less painful, but shaving is painless unless you accidentally cut yourself. I didn't see much reduction in hair growth while using this and it does grow back within two weeks. One more thing I would like to mention, it never gave me any ingrown hair problem / bumps, even the 1 or 2 times I tried it on underarms.

WHAT I LIKED:
  • Definitely less painful than waxing.
  • Leaves skin silky smooth.
  • No ingrown hair or rashes/bumps.
  • Easy to use and clean.
  • Two modes of speed to suit the need.
  • Price is comparatively okay.
  • Would suit all skin types.

WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE:
  • Doesn't work on stubborn little hairs.
  • Time consuming if you are new to this.
  • Can't be used on sensitive areas, unless you are ready to bear the eyes-popping-out-of-the-socket-tongue-rolling-out pain.
  • The epilator head starts getting hot after sometime. I don't know if that is normal.

VERDICT: This can be a value added product for those who do / need frequent waxing. Also, if you are wary of waxing or shaving then you can try this, else this isn't of much use for lazy bums like me who don't have a high rate of hair growth problem ;). Do let me know if you have any queries, or your experience of using an epilator.

RATINGS:  3.75 out of 5

  6. Hi pooja.Very nice review.I have a philips epilator and it also get warm in the tweezers area after continuous use for some time(around 30-35min). so what I do is,once I finish epilating my 1 hand,i stop the machine n let it rest.during that time I apply aloe vera gel to that arm,it instantly relieves 70% of the pain and redness I got from epilating.then I move to epilate the other hand and then take "aloevera Break" once again.....you get the idea,na....in this way my machine is not overheat ever....also epilating while watching tv is my fav way....I know it may sound weird, but I can't just sit n epilate,it's sound scares me,so the background sound of tv helps a lot

Haha..that's exactly what i would say too :P
I bought a Panasonic epilator...and its horrible...i mean its so so so painfull! It hurts A LOT more than waxing..and you have to over the same area like 6 to 7 times..and still the stubborn hairs remain..I knew I should've bought Braun :(
