Maybelline Colossal Kajal Review

Hey ya friends! Well I guess I am the last one left in the Indian beauty blogosphere to review the much hyped Maybelline Colossal Kajal. Is the hype worth it? It definitely is! As you might know by now that I love these twist-up eye-kohl/kajal pencils and this one is from my recent purchases. After going through numerous online swatches I definitely needed this one in my kitty.

PRICE:  Rs.150

QUANTITY: 0.35g

INGREDIENTS: Not mentioned.

WHAT IT CLAIMS:

Our deepest black pigments + unique tip deliver the blackest black shine ever. Color glides on smooth and so intense. Formula enriched with Vitamin E soothes the eyes. Never before 6H of smudge resistant wear. Our exclusive color fix formula guarantees intense color results that won't smudge, budge or fade. No more touchups.”

SWATCHES:
Swiped once only

MY EXPERIENCE: I am forever looking for Kohl liners/Kajals that shows up well on my dark rimmed eyes. And I am glad I found one that manages to do that quite well. I use it to line my upperlids, tightline and waterline and I never feel any discomfort or irritation. Oh and did I tell ya that this is a special product because it was created exclusively for the Indian market by Maybelline India and presumably it's not available in any other country :P :D (I guess we deserve it as we miss all the E.L.Fs, M.U.As, WnWs, etc.).

WHAT I LIKED:
  • It is smudge-proof and water-proof. Until you get in a WWE fight with your eyelids and try to rub it off hard (very hard!) it won’t give you the raccoon eyes.
  • Glides on perfectly and stays put on my eyelids even more than the 6 hour claim and didn’t budge until I used cleanser to remove it (doesn’t get off with water).
  • The price is just.. SWEET.
  • Didn’t irritate my eyes at all. No scratchy/ dry-feeling too.
  • I know it comes in a little quantity but I love that fact too, as I always plan to use up my cosmetics and hit pan but never actually do so as something else grabs my fancy (Read: I still have the Lotus Herbals kohl liner with more than half the quantity and it is almost over a year). So little quantity means it would finish up fast and I don’t have to worry about product expiration.
  • I liked the cute yellow packaging.

WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE:
  • It is a bit creamy (or it acts like one on high temperature days) and breaks off a little under pressure (like in very tiny chunks).
  • Cleansing it off is a pain but I don’t mind it as I love everything else about this kohl pencil. :)

VERDICT: At 150 bucks it is definitely worth it and as of now it is my HG kohl until I find a replacement. I would love to call this a Kohl-liner and not a kajal as it is quite slimmer than kajals and glides on like a liner. You must try it out once if you still haven’t and this won’t pinch your pocket much.

RATINGS:  5 out of 5

    1. Hi Swats, I haven't tried the Chambor eye pencils till now. However, the Maybelline Colossal Kajal is essentially a kohl liner which lasts really long on my eyes, other than this if you want some color pencils then colorbar i glide ones are your best bet, also the Faces range has pretty shades too and all these three are really long lasting on eyes, but the faces one strays a bit(doesn't smudge though). Hope this clears your confusion. :)

  8. Hi Radhika! I am sorry but can't help you out on the stores in Mumbai, as I am from Kolkata and haven't been to Mumbai ever. But for the kajal, you can easily get it on any shopping website like StyleCraze.com(for colorbar) or Medplusbeauty.com (for chambor)with discounts too :

  13. I guess I'm gonna buy this today. Till now I've been jumping from VLCC to Himalaya to nto Shahnaz kohl...but the twist ons are good only as long as the tip is still sharp. Plus they always smudge during summer or when we haven't overlined it with a liquid liner. Can't wait till today evening until I grab one for myself!

    2. hey pooja! first things first you are doing wonderful work with your blog. Congratulations! Coming to my query as I wear lenses my eyes get watery and not any of those kajal pencils or kohl-liners work well on my eyes. Can Colossal change it for me? I so want to have it in my kitty.

    3. Hi Roopali! Thanks a lot for the encouragement. Means a lot :)

Coming to ur question, I don't wear lenses so can't comment how this would work for sensitive eyes. But, honestly I never faced any such problems with this one. This didn't irritate my eyes ever. But then most of the eye pencils I have used doesn't pose this problem. Only a few liquid liners and mascaras give me watery eyes.

  20. Maybelline Colossal Kajal with new price of Rs.175 is orginial. and with old prices is fake. IS it true? Most of the shopkeepers are saying? And Lakme eyeconic of RS. 200 is fake? I use both of it. Hw we get to know which one is real n which one is fake? i m really confused..:(

    1. Hi Deepti, yes I guess Maybelline did a price hike for their colossal kajal and now its available at Rs.175 (listed on most popular shopping sites). If u r getting it in 150 then it must be some old stock. Also, to check the authentic one, see this pic: http://sphotos-e.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash3/551622_571182672896240_52093600_n.jpg

Lakme eyeconic costs 199 and is probably out of market for the time being.
